Something Great is Brewing in Ocean View

Norfolk is home to many excellent breweries and coffee shops. But what if you can’t decide if you want a cup of joe or a brewski? With one of Norfolk’s newest additions, you don’t have to decide!

COVA Brewing Comes to Ocean View in Norfolk

COVA Brewing Company has been a game changer not only for the Ocean View area, but for all of Norfolk. They offer both craft beer brewed on site and specialty coffees custom made in-house. COVA Brewing ties coastal themes into their name and throughout their décor, inspired by its close proximity to Ocean View beach (which is right across the street!).

COVA Coffee Shop

There has been many a time where I can’t decide if I want a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine. I’d like to think I’m not the only one who has this internal battle. With COVA Brewing Company, I can have my cake and eat it too (aka have coffee with my wine). When I visited COVA Brewing, I started off with a specialty latte called the Coconut Delight Latte, inspired by the Samoa Girl Scout cookie. This delicious taste of heaven features coconut, caramel and mocha flavors to make you feel like you’re drinking the actual cookie. What a great sensation!

For the month of March, they are also featuring a Mocha Mint Cold Brew as a nod to the best Girl Scout cookies out there – Thin Mints. I’m already planning my next trip so I can give this a try!

 COVA Brewery

Aside from the fact that this business is half coffee shop, half brewery, this isn’t your run of the mill brewery. In the tap room, the beverages are served in a self-serve tap system, and range from sour beers to IPAs to wine, and even a hard seltzer or two mixed in. As an avid wine fan, I love when breweries offer a variety of drinks in case I want to venture from the dark, heavy beers often featured at breweries.

COVA has done an excellent job of managing health and safety for patrons, with systems in place to keep the taps sanitized and avoiding refills with the same glass. They also have super friendly staff in place to help manage the flow of people in line for beer, and to offer helpful recommendations for first timers that might be overwhelmed with so many options.

The COVA Experience

I would give the atmosphere 10 out of 10 stars. They are doing it right! They have successfully incorporated the coziness of a coffee shop with the cool, modern feel of a brewery while tying it all together with beautiful branding and bright colors. Located in a building that looks like it might have been a car shop in the past, they have the perfect setup with garage doors that can open in warmer weather to give an airy and open ambiance.

They also recently added firepits, which I’m always a sucker for.  So grab a friend and head to COVA Brewing Company for a fireside chat with a brew – whether that’s coffee or beer!
