Breakfast at Grandiflora was a (Turkish) Delight

Breakfast at Grandiflora was a (Turkish) Delight

If you’ve ever walked the streets of the Chelsea District in West Ghent, you’ve probably passed  the enchanted garden with a sign welcoming visitors to stop in for wine or breakfast, depending on when you passed by. I had the pleasure of visiting Grandiflora Wine Garden for a traditional Turkish breakfast in their garden veranda. As soon as I stepped foot onto the property, I felt like I had been whisked away to a fairytale garden in Turkey. I was met with a warm greeting from the owners, who clearly enjoy sharing their passion for wine and Turkish cuisine with guests.

The Turkish Breakfast Experience

This was my first time having a traditional Turkish breakfast, but I plan on making it a regular occurrence. From the time I walked up until I left, I felt like I was on vacation in Turkey. From the enchanting garden surrounding me, to all of the authentic Turkish details, it was absolutely perfect. Even the weather in the garden was perfect, slightly overcast with a breeze.

Aside from the beautiful details in the dishes and cuisine presentation, the food and drink were delicious. I had the French press coffee from Vessel Craft Coffee, which was perfect for sipping in between each dish that was brought out. They also have a variety of hand-picked wines available, which gives me a great excuse to visit again for the wine tasting experience.

Grandiflora is a vegetarian restaurant, with locally sourced fresh produce and ingredients that taste incredible. They bring out a few different dishes at a time, so that you can leisurely snack on a variety of tapas style fare that’s freshly prepared. Some of the vegetables were from their own garden, and even the ones that weren’t were from nearby farms. My favorite was the rose-infused honey spread over their fresh bread. The food was hearty without being too heavy, perfect for enjoying over conversation with a good friend.

The Perfect Way to Cap Off the Weekend

While I anticipated that this breakfast would be a bit different than the traditional pancakes and eggs breakfast outing, it was altogether a different experience that I can’t wait to enjoy again soon. Every time they brought out a new dish, it was an exciting experience. It was also the perfect amount of food that left me content but not in a tired slump.

Grandiflora is also a bed and breakfast, and based on their top-notch breakfast experience, I’m hoping to do a staycation here so that I can get the full Grandiflora experience.
